WSSA Charity 2009-2010

Submitted by Bonnie Coppock & Betty Allard, Charity Co-Chairs

The WSSA Winter Rendezvous was a festive time as members met and reminisced with friends.  It was a time for learning of new challenges for our sport of snowmobiling, a time for electing officers, and a time for recognizing members and clubs.  For the 2009/2010 snowmobile year, WSSA had six clubs, down from eight last year, which either held ‘January Events on the Snow’ or had made donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, WSSA’s chosen charity.  These funds totaled $7,837.

Many thanks go out to the clubs who have made contributions in their club’s and WSSA’s name.  It shows what caring people we have in our organization and it’s a pleasure to recognize these clubs.  The following clubs have reported their donations for this season:  206 Sno-Riders, $100; Methow Valley Snowmobile Association, $255; Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club, $500; WSSA, $500; Butte Busters Snowmobile Club, $870; Blue Mountain Snowmobile Club, $1,356; and the Junco Club, $4117.

The Junco Snowmobile Club, again this year, has won the two WSSA Charity trophies.  Their grand total has made them the recipients since they brought in the greatest amount for the ‘January Event on the Snow’, and reported collecting the most money for charity this year.  This club, with their fantastic volunteers, puts on a great event on the snow each year.

A big thank you goes out to Terry Tanner for challenging his fellow District Reps to match his $20 contribution to Make-A-Wish.  Thank you Reps for accepting his challenge and dropping your money into the Make-A-Wish Charity Jug during the Rendezvous Banquet.  The jug produced another $139 for the Foundation.  Thank you Terry Tanner!

Another award that was presented at the Rendezvous was the Volunteer Award. Cascade Drift Skipper members Mick Steinman and Elwood Hunt were given their WSSA Volunteer hats for providing 50 hours of volunteer service.  Shirley Koger was on hand to receive Elwood’s hat for him.

Volunteer work hours are tallied each year from April 1st to March 31st and turned in to Betty Allard.  They can be e-mailed to bfallard@petelecom.us or mailed to 710 Edmonds, Omak, WA 98841.  Also include your club’s charity volunteer hours and dollar amounts for various charities (Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer, scholarships, food banks, etc).
